MUI-Funding for PhD Research Training Groups

The Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) is opening an internal call for tenders for innovative PhD research training groups that match the subject framework of the programmes of the Innsbruck PhD school for biomedical sciences

Objective: To ensure the sustainable establishment of excellent doctoral programmes (by international standards) at the MUI.

Eligibility:
Only proposals that match the thematic orientation of the following programmes can be submitted:

  • Neurosciences
  • Molecular and cellular biology of diseases
  • Infection, immunity & transplantation
  • Image-guided diagnosis and therapy
  • Musculoskeletal sciences
  • Medical Psychology

All members of the consortium submitting the application must have proven experience in supervising PhD projects.
All members of the consortium submitting the application must have excellent research qualifications by international standards.

Funding volume: Personal costs for 6 to 12 PhD students for 4 years, plus € 10.000/PhD student/year for training costs and consumables.

Deadline: This call for tenders will be open from 20.06.2023 to 30.09.2023.

Application: Projects must be submitted by the coordinator of the intended PhD research training group online via GAR (https://fld.i-med.ac.at/public/garinfo.cgi).

Applications must include:

  • Application form (GAR)
  • Proposal, including the following sections: research framework, consortium, training programme, value added, planned dissertation topics and references cited. Please use the application template provided here.
  • Detailed CV of all consortium members (max. 3 pages in line with the FWF guidelines for curricula vitae).
  • Separate list of officially supervised PhD students in the last 5 years for all members of the consortium.
  • Abstract comprising a maximum of one page. The abstract must include the following sections: research context, hypotheses/research questions, approach/methods, consortium and value added. The abstract forms part of the application template.

Selection procedure:
Projects will be selected by an internal committee, in accordance with the following criteria: qualifications of the consortium and suitability of the proposed PhD research training group for the Innsbruck PhD School for Biomedical Sciences as well as its scientific excellence. Priority will be given to proposals that fall within the MUI strategic research focus or that represent a continuation of FWF-funded doctoral programmes (i.e. DKs or doc.funds). Furthermore, priority will also be given to doc.funds applications that were positively evaluated by the FWF but did not receive funding. Applications that are incomplete with regard to the requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
