Welcome to the Health Data Research Hub (HDRH)

Working together for better health research!

The Health Data Research Hub (HDRH) of the Medical University of Innsbruck is a central initiative dedicated to enabling modern, secure, and ethically responsible research using health-related data. The HDRH provides the necessary infrastructure, domain expertise, and governance frameworks to support data-driven medical research and innovation. In close collaboration with Tirol Kliniken and additional partners, we are establishing a distributed digital ecosystem that enables the sustainable and secure use of health data.

What we do?

We are building a digital ecosystem for health data that supports research through data integration, curation, and analysis. Through our MUI Health Data products and services, we create added value for research and contribute to improvements in patient care.

We strive to achieve data excellence for research. Our goal is to foster innovation and scientific collaboration and to improve patient care through data-driven insights. Our mission is to create an integrated environment in which health data can be used for research while adhering to the highest standards of data protection, data security, and regulatory compliance.

Our Principles

• Distributed Data Ownership:Responsibility for data remains with the respective data owners.
• Fair Data Sharing: Data are shared in accordance with the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.
• Federated Access Control: Data access is granted securely and transparently in coordination with the data owners.
• Central Governance: Clear rules and processes ensure the efficient and ethical use of health data.

We provide comprehensive organizational and technical support for research projects, including:

• Assurance of data quality and data protection
