Open-access publication fund of Medical University of Innsbruck

The Medical University of Innsbruck provides financial support for open-access publishing by its researchers through a publication fund.

Applications can be made for publication cost subsidies (exclusively for article processing charges APCs) up to a maximum of 2,000 EUR for publications in Gold Open Access Journals under the following conditions:

Applicants:

"First author" or “submitting author” or “corresponding author” must be a member of MUI and responsible for payment of publication costs.

Requirement for publication in a journal:

  • The article must appear in a “pure” open access journal, be listed in the Dictionary of Open-Access Journals DOAJ and meet the quality criteria defined there (peer review). The publication must be freely accessible via the internet immediately on publication.
  • The journal is not covered by the MUI publishing agreements.
  • The journal must have an impact factor of at least 4 or be listed in class Q1 in the respective subject area in JCR (Journal Citation Reports, Rank by Journal Impactfactor).
  • The "corresponding author” must be a member of MUI and the affiliation address must be Medizinische Universität Innsbruck or the Medical University of Innsbruck.
  • The article must appear under a creative commons licence.
  • The following acknowledgement must be included in the publication upon submission: "Open Access Funding provided by the Medical University of Innsbruck".

For which costs can an application be made?

  • An application can be made only for article processing charges – no submission fees, colour charges etc.
  • The invoice must be paid in advance via the cost centre of the respective organisational unit or a project account. Proof of payment is required.

No funding:

  • In the case of articles published as part of FWF projects, EU projects or predominantly externally funded research
  • In the case of redemption of hybrid open-access publications in subscription journals.

Funding is awarded on a “first come, first served” basis. There is no legal entitlement to this funding. When the funding from the publication fund of the Medical University of Innsbruck is exhausted, no further funding will be possible.

  • Proof of payment (e.g. from the finance and accounting department or via the office of the respective organisational unit)
  • Indication of the cost centre of the organisational unit or project account from which the invoice was paid.
