IMMUNOLOGY

The main research interests of the Immunology Research Group are: (1) studying entry of pathogens (HIV-1, Chlamydia, Aspergillus) via epithelial and mucosal barriers, (2) studying complement activation at these entry sides and the impact of opsonization on modulation of antigen-presenting cells, (3) elucidating the impact of the opsonization pattern on adaptive immune induction and polarization, (4) designing and optimizing innovative and highly sophisticated 3-dimensional cell culture models (barrier models containing relevant immune cells, T cell zone of the lymph node) to replace animal experiments in medical research and (5) educating interested parties in alternatives to animal testing.
